Founder of clinic for porn actors fights back

The San Fernando Valley is known as America’s largest suburb. It  also is  the center of the adult entertainment industry.  Last year, an AIDS scare within the industry cast a spotlight on a health clinic here that provides HIV testing to performers.  An AIDS organization accused the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation of hiding test results.  Sharon Mitchell, the founder of the clinic, gave me an exclusive  interview for this story I wrote (Daily News, Dec. 2010), defending her work. Because of her work, every adult film actor must have an HIV test every 30 days before they perform.

***Update:  Mitchell filed for bankruptcy and closed the clinic in May, 2011.  Testing is now conducted under the  San Fernando Valley-based Coalition for Free Speech.
